A FEW WORDS
100% NATURAL CLOTHING FOR
CHILDREN AGED 0 TO 4 YEARS
Hiya! I’m Johanna, the founder and senior designer behind Marigold the brand. Whilst working in the fashion industry I saw many practices which didn't align with my values of sustainability.
I saw large amounts of unsold clothing burned and destroyed for commercial reasons. I became aware of the extensive use of chemicals used in the production of many children clothing brands. Even much ethically sourced and naturally died clothing is still set with chemicals, and not 100% natural. All our dyes are set using a traditional technique where vinegar is used instead of synthetic chemicals.
This has led me to launch Marigold the brand so that children have access to clothing that is safe, 100% natural, and aesthetically beautiful in colour and design.
Personally, my favourite is the golden yellow linen that is made through crushing pomegranates, grinding turmeric roots to create a paste before letting the fabric absorb the richness of the colour over 3 weeks.
THE DYING PROCESS VARIES FROM INGREDIENT TO INGREDIENT
The dying process varies from ingredient to ingredient. Each has its own recipes and our India based dyer has developed their know-how in botany and chemistry over generations of perfecting the dying process. The color pigments are extracted from leaves, flowers, fruits, roots and barks. To do this some ingredients must be brought to boil, whilst others require a period of fermentation.
Extracting the colours of nature is an artform and produces fabrics that are enchanting and pleasing to the soul. See our products.
